Easiest Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipe EVER

Steel Cut Oats in Slow Cooker Recipe

This post is part of a sponsored campaign with The Motherhood and McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal®. All statements and opinions are mine.

For ages I’ve been wanting to make steel cut oatmeal overnight in my crockpot and I finally did it! I ordered McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal online and then I asked my friends on Facebook for slow cooker steel cut oatmeal recipes and I got quite the enthusiastic and eager responses from friends who love waking up to a hearty breakfast that cooks itself overnight.

In case you’ve never tried McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, it has a rich texture and a distinctively unique nutty flavor. Also, the ingredients list reads: “100% whole grain Irish oats.” That’s it, one ingredient! There is minimal processing, nothing added and nothing artificial.

I purchased McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal in the traditional tin and can I just tell you that I love the tin so much I’m going to keep it and use it to store either pens or whatnots in my office when all is said and done? I mean look at the tin, isn’t she pretty?

This lovely product also holds the distinction of having earned Non-GMO Certification from the Non-GMO Project, which independently verifies that products are made according to best practices for GMO (genetically modified organisms) avoidance. McCann’s Quick & Easy Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal in the 24 oz. Canister and McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal Quick Cooking Rolled Oats in the 16 oz. Box also received Non-GMO Certification.

McCann's Non GMO Verified

Now, on to the fun part where you get to each all the yumminess. Out of all the recipes that my friends suggested, one stood out as the easiest by far and that’s the one I recommend because of its simplicity, ease and versatility. Check it out!

Easiest Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oatmeal Recipe

Steel cut oats recipe

Ingredients:

  • Unsalted butter
  • 1 cup McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt

Directions:

Coat the inside of your slow cooker with unsalted butter so that the oats won’t stick.

Put all the ingredients in your slow cooker and cook on low overnight (8 hours).

Suggestions:

When you wake up and are ready to eat, you can add milk, brown sugar, cinnamon, fruit or anything else you like to your bowl of warm oatmeal. I like the idea of this easy slow cooker steel cut oatmeal recipe because everyone in the family can adapt the finished oatmeal to their liking with toppings or additions.
