Fragmented Fridays

Today I want to tell you about a few edible items that I can’t get enough of lately.

First there is grey salt. Unknown Papi brought grey salt into our kitchen a couple of years ago and now we have a hard time living without it. We make special trips to Half Moon Bay, CA to get it. The one we get is course and perfect for finishing. Love it on organic free range steak.

Gray Salt

I’ve always been a salty snack type of person. Desserts are fine, but I don’t have to have them. I don’t go gaga over chocolate and chocolate chip cookies where never my thing until I had these:

La Boulange Super Natural Cookies

These ready to bake chocolate chunk cookies by La Boulange are AMAZING. I like to end most days with a couple of these and a cold glass of milk.

I’m also really loving nutritional yeast. It’s got this wonderfully comforting nutty cheesy  flavor to it that I love on my popcorn. It’s finger linkin’ good.

Nutritional yeast

Are there any comestibles you can’t get enough of lately?

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

While I am in the US, I love feasting on good ice cream. That’s sadly lacking in my little country in the south. Ben and Jerry’s is my favorite, but Blue Bell is a great substitute. I also confess to enjoy artificial, man-made “foods” in the US because this country is the epicenter of such treats. I marvel at the aisles and aisles of stuff here that no one else can afford in developing countries. But it’s a good thing, as the list of ingredients on pop tarts and Little Debbie treats are frighteningly long.

That has to be a very interesting perspective, Laurie. Can you imagine what your students would think to see such abundance?!

Hmm… might have to try the grey salt… I’m not much of a sweets person either, being allergic to chocolate, but I do go for salty treats!

I have never heard of any of that. LOL! But, that does remind me that I forgot cookies while I was at the store today…

Oh I love sel gris!  There are so many great salts out there, aren’t there?  Truffle salt is another favorite, but it’s only an after cooking salt.

I’ve never done the nutritional yeast, but I’m intrigued.  What is it and why are you eating it – since it sounds like it has a story to it!

My favorite thing right now is fresh smoked salmon.  I was in Seattle for a friend’s 40th birthday and we stopped at the “good” fish place (not the throwing one) at Pike Place Market and got a slab of ohhhh so yummy smoked salmon.  I might lick the package when it’s gone….

The nutritional yeast is good for you, but honestly I’m eating it because I like it.

Hmm. Have not heard of grey salt. I love that name “Supernatural cookies” – so magical. It is so tempting to do a copycat post like this you know. Like you, I also prefer salt-snacks but I’ll sneak some dark bitter chocolate once in a while.  I have a weakness for roasted nuts – and my current “disease” snack is roasted salted pistachios. Sigh. I have to replenish my supplies.

I am addicted to great “food” pictures like these 🙂

Oh my bestest girlfriend and I used to sit in church goin’ through the hymnal with the song titles addin’…underneath the bedsheets!!!  ‘My bad………….

Honey, my motto on treats is…”if it ain’t chocolate…it’s not worth the calories!”  I’m a sucker for decant rich chocolate. Nope, ya won’t catch me turnin’ any down!

God bless ya sweetie and have yourself one fabulous Friday!!! :o)

Mmmm…..I’m going to try the salt!  I love all kinds of salt.  And I’m more of a salty snack person with a cupcake here and there.  Your “can’t do withouts” look pretty yummy!

YES!  I’m a salty snacker too.  I will have to look for that salt.  But I do love salty sweet snacks too.  Like dark chocolate with sea salt.  yum 😀

I have never heard of any of those.  Okay I had to look up comestibles!! It is what I thought it was but I never heard that word either.  I was introduced to risotto about a year ago and I love it but haven’t made it yet, I buy the ready made frozen at Trader Joe’s.

You’re very educational today, Mami; I’ve never heard of any of these! The yeast….hm…..especially that one.  I’d be surprised to find any of those products here in Wisconsin.

I visited my BFF this summer and she had pink salt.  I think I’m going to have to do a little investigative work to find some interesting salts.  That might make a fabulous gift for those that are hard to buy for. Three or four different salts all beautifully packaged… ah 🙂  Thanks, Mami!

We give salt as gifts all the time. We’ve gotten quite a few people hooked on red salt from Hawaii.

I love brewer’s/nutritional yeast! I discovered it when making a lactation cookie recipe (to increase milk supply). Right now I’m obsessed with raw snacks, particularly almonds and cranberries. I could eat tons in a sitting.

I love adding cinnamon in coffee. Also, white cheddar popcorn from Smartfood. It’s the only kind of popcorn I will eat, aside from movie theater popcorn. And…
