Fragmented Fridays

My daughter does not suck! Oh sure, I know it sounds like I’m bragging, like “your daughter sucks and mine doesn’t”, but I’m not. I’m not bragging. I wish my daughter did suck. You see I’m breastfeeding and my daughter is not very good at transferring milk from the breast. It’s a bit of a bummer since I already have all sorts of insecurities when it comes to breastfeeding.

Last time around I did not (no matter what I tried and believe me I tried everything) make enough milk. This time, I was worried I would have the same issue, but no my supply seems to be fine, it’s just that my delicate little baby girl doesn’t seem to have the strength or energy yet to get all the milk on her own.

The lactation consultant said that realistically it will probably take another month before my cutie is up to speed. This means I spend all friggin’ day pumping to keep my milk supply going. I HATE PUMPING! Breastfeeding provides some lovely bonding moments with my child. I do not experience the same joy or any effects of oxytocin when bonding with my electric pump. The pump does not make me feel like a happy cow mami.

Last week, I told you that both my mother and MIL would be staying with us at the same time for a couple of days. I’m here to report that everyone survived. It wasn’t so bad at all. The mothers got along well and entertained each other when we needed a break from unsolicited advice.

My mother is gone. My MIL is still here and will be here for a couple of weeks. My mother managed to be very helpful and drive me crazy at the same time. My MIL does not drive me crazy. Now it’s Unknown Papi’s turn to roll his eyes and huff and puff. It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one that turns into a petulant teenager when my mother is around.

I can’t watch TV without hearing about Charlie Sheen. This guy’s coverage is better than ________! Come on I challenge you to fill in the blank. (Examples: than a burka/burqa, than American’s health insurance, than a drag queen’s foundation.)

On Fridays I provide you with a free fortune cookie saying. This Friday I am dedicating the fortune to Mr. Charlie Sheen, but it’s good advice for all of us.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

Don’t confuse recklessness with confidence.

Aw, that little cutie will get the hang of it, but I know what a pain the pumping is. (I have a funny story about carrying a breast pump on an airplane a long time ago, but it is a little long to tell here).
Yes, it is time for the media to figure out that Charlie Sheen is not news.

I know I’ve told you this before, but I SO feel your pain about breastfeeding and pumping. When my youngest weaned himself at 3 months a friend of mine told me to keep pumping and give him my breastmilk in a bottle. Number 1, I only made about 2 ounces – on a GOOD day! Number 2, I liken pumping to making out with a mannequin. Just doesn’t get the same endorphins flowing! There was NO. FREAKIN’. WAY that I was going to pump for a measly 2 ounces! She was nuts.

    And so is Charlie Sheen.

Here’s hoping cutie pie sucks! Hang in there!

I’m glad you made it through the meeting of the mothers. I’m sorry to hear your little one is having trouble. I can imagine myself asking people (so ignorant I know) can’t I just squeeze it to help her? I guess you can’t.

Ugh! I’m so over him… Better than death.

Oh, I do squeeze it to help her, but it ends up taking to long for her to eat that way.

So sorry you’re having a tough time nursing. I always envied those women for whom it’s so easy. It was tough for me, all 3 times, with varying degrees of success.
I applaud you for keeping on with it!

Hugs to you… my first son was almost 6 weeks before he figured out how to suck… it was a PITA but so worth it when he finally did figure it out… my mother drives both hubby and I nuts when she visits, but my MIL was a true gem when the baby was born… glad you have the help 🙂

On the Charlie Sheen thing…I was over it before it even started. I wish they’d move on to their next crazy person…err…story.

“than a grippin’ pair of tidy whities!!!!” i am so through with mr. sheen on the tellie…

i also hated pumping!! i would get lazy about it and get other breastfeeding issues that are super unpleasant! i hope your daughter can get her mouth and mind wrapped around it for your sake! i tease my hubby that all our kids eat just like him… then the laughing is over when they continue to eat like race horses when we have to pay for it at the grocery 😉 you sound like you are doing well, and that is fantastic with a newborn!!

I think it is impossible to use bottle and breast. It is too confusing for the little babies. They do not have to work as hard with a bottle. I hope you don’t have to give up because pumping is what really sucks.
Sheen; his poor kids. I’m afraid they are going to find him dead or something else really bad.

An excellent fortune. And poor Charlie Sheen. I feel like we have a front row seat, whether we want it or not, to his eventual complete demise.
And I am so sorry the breastfeeding isn’t going well. That is beyond tough.

I totally hear you about Charlie Sheen. Like watching a train wreck, I’ve been telling people. He just needs to SHUT UP for 72 hours. Just… NOT Make waves or rock anybodys boat or anything…. just SHHH for 72 hours to reflect. He also needs a good slap that will be heard around the world. Maybe the slap will render him speechless for 72 hours. Hmm.

I am glad everybody survived the two Moms being there! My mother is already on my back about how to cook, how to clean… I cringe to think what she’d do if I had a baby. So kudos to you all Moms out there!

Breast Feeding… some babies take to it some don’t. I hope yours do real soon. I wouldn’t want you to burst.

I know it takes a while to get babies prepped to breast feed sometimes. They make it sound like the baby just naturally does it and stuff, but really, it’s work!!

My great-niece was a slow sucker too…. Now at 9 months she went for 5lbs to a babe with cheeks so big she looks like a blow fish (but you didn’t hear that from me) Hang in there.

I think it’s great that you allowed both mommas to come at the same time! That took a lot of guts, but so very happy that you get a little kick out of seeing Unknown Papi be a teenager around his mom. Funny how that happens LOL

All the best with the little one and pumping.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with breastfeeding – I know how difficult that can be! There is this wonderful organization called Mothers Overcoming Breastfeeding Issues (MOBI) online, they have a lot of amazing advice and a message board that provided me with all the support I needed when I was having troubles. If you’re interested. Good job keeping with it, I know pumping is not fun!

Yeah, I don’t really even understand what the heck is going on with this whole Charlie Sheen thing. It’s so strange!

Charlie Sheen needs to stop talking to the news media and start figuring out a way to get his life back together and be a better role model for his kids

sorry the breast feeding isn’t quite going the way it should be; some just seem to “latch” on so well and with others it is a struggle. hang in there; I have heard and I’m sure you know, it is so good for the baby

glad to hear the mothers did well with their visits together; so glad you are having a bit of a chance to enjoy time with MIL

    take care of yourself!!!!
