Funny San Francisco Latina Blogger

July 29, 2011 Claudya Martinez

Fragmented Fridays

My badge for BlogHer ’11 came! Woo hoo… so excited. I’ll be honest and let you know that I’ve actually been a bit stressed out about going. I’ve never been before and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed until I talked to another blogger and she point blank asked me what I wanted to get out of it and can you believe that I had never even asked myself that question? Turns out that what I want to get out of it, is to meet some great bloggers.

All of a sudden the pressure was off. I don’t feel like I have to RSVP for any particular parties. I’ll go to the official parties that do not require RSVPs if I have the energy. I’ll take my time and connect with other bloggers and if I have to take a break because my baby needs me, then I’ll take a break.

So much stress in my life is self-inflicted and silly. I am not going to stress about something that is supposed to be fun.

I got to hang out with Carrie from tikitiki and Bilingual in the Boonies. I found Carrie when I had just started out as a blogger and I started looking for other Latina bloggers. I went to my buddy Google and typed in “Latina Bloggers” and I found Carrie and I thought cool. So I visited and I liked her writing and then last year I went to Miami for an event and this lovely woman was standing next to me and when I said I was Unknown Mami, she knew who I was and that woman was Carrie and I knew who she was.

When I told my husband that I was going to meet Carrie in the park today I said, “The girls and I are going to meet a friend in the park.” He committed the cardinal sin of saying, “A real friend or a blogger?” I tersely responded, “She’s real!” And she is real and I had a great time talking with her and I have no problem calling her a real friend, not a blogger friend.

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

When in doubt, follow your instinct.

Have you had that discussion about other bloggers are actually REAL people? My husband does the same thing.

I’m working up to going to BlogHer someday…

I’m so excited for you!  Hope you have a wonderful time!  You have the right idea of “not overdoing” it.  You don’t have to go to all the parties.  I love San Diego and I hope you get some time to see it.  If you have a chance, please try to visit Old Town.

Granted you don’t have to go to all the parties… but since I’ll only be at one of them you simply must be at that one! ::pressure!::

I read an interesting post (which of course I don’t remember the blog name) of a guy blogger who talked about going to BlogHer in NYC sometime ago.  He enjoyed it.  He had a funny line in his post about being a member having a member.  Staying awake through those conference sessions must be tough after all the parties.

How exciting!  I love how my husband encouraged me to go meet Mamarazzi.  It is totally TOTALLY out of character for both of us but I am so thankful I did, I for sure met a true blue life long REAL friend!  🙂

Hello. I found you through Friday Fragments, and my friend Traci of Traci’s Mixed Bag. This was my first Friday Fragments and I think I may not have been brief enough 😛 Anyway I like your blog.

I think meeting other bloggers is one of the best things blog conferences can offer us. I’m sure you’ll have a ton of fun. But will you wear a bag on your head the whole time?

That’s the perfect attitude for BlogHer. I had the same one and had a ball in 2009. Some day, I hope they come back to Chicago. (Please text me when they tell you the 2012 location, if you think of it, okay?!)

I’m considering signing up with BlogHer…after talking to Mrs. Fours I think I’d really enjoy the conference.
For some reason every time I say the word “blogger” my coworker laughs.  As if we are not real or something. It’s odd.

Hope you have a great time!

Whew!  This post actually helped me to relax.  I’m not going to BlogHer, but the Relevant ’11 conference and I’ve been stressing like crazy, wondering what a little pip-squirt like me is doing going to play with the big girls, etc.  You’re right…I just want to meet some great people and pick up a few tips and ideas.

Glad someone was able to help you through the jitters about going. I really don’t know much about it and would not be attending any conferences. I remember when you took your family to a conference in Miami and it sounded like you had a really good time. I hope you enjoy this one and that you benefit from it in ways you can’t imagine now.

How very exciting that you will be here this week. I’ve talked to many people from the bay area this week and they said it’s been cold, so coming down here to the warmth will be I’m sure pleasant. I wish I was going to the event but this year it wasn’t feasible. Not to mention I’m taking my days off in the middle of the week to go off with family for my hubby’s b-day. I can’t wait to hear about the people you meet. And if for whatever reason you plan on going to a certain sea life park let me know at least the day before and maybe I can arrange a small BTS tour or something. YAY!! For meeting new friends. Have fun.
