Hola Chulas y Chulos! ¿Cómo están? My flying chancla and I are as giddy as little girls because we found out that Today Is Art Day, an online arts community, is releasing a Frida Kahlo action figure. The funding for the manufacturing of the Frida muñeca was raised via a Kickstarter campaign, which far surpassed its $20,000 goal.
Let’s celebrate because the success of the campaign means that Frida Kahlo is going to be an action figure for reals.

The figure itself is made of PVC and stands at 5″ tall.
You can preorder one for $30 (plus shipping, of course)!

Aside from bragging rights, Frida comes with:
- A crown of roses that ACTUALLY smells like wild roses
- A surrealist heart that you can take on and off
- A monkey on her back
- An attachable parrot
- A cardboard easel and four pieces of art inspired by Frida
- A box with 10 fascinating Frida facts
Also, Frida is not a toy.

No, for reals, as a mom I feel it is my duty to tell you that this action figure is not intended for children under 12 years old because, “Hello, chocking hazards!”
Oh, and I almost forgot to tell you that the project has the blessing and support of the Frida Kahlo Corporation, which owns the rights to use the Frida Kahlo brand name.
“We’re dedicated to educating, sharing and preserving Frida Kahlo’s art, image and legacy. This Frida Kahlo action figure project aligns with our mission and so we choose to support it,” said Beatriz Alvarado, head of international affairs at the Frida Kahlo Corporation, in a press release.
The Frida Kahlo figure is the second addition to the Art History Heroes collection that Today Is Art Day is intent on expanding. Their first inductee/creation was none other than Vincent Van Gogh.

It will come as no surprise to fans of Van Gogh that the figure comes with a detachable ear.
