As many of you know, I’ve had serious problems with my eyes the last couple of years. Issues with iritis and corneal ulcers have made it difficult for me to wear contacts. When I first found out that wearing contacts every day like I had for the last two decades of my life was no longer going to be possible, I was bummed and I complained about it on this blog. Many of you consoled me by saying that there are great glasses out there and I should embrace them.
That’s great and all, but when was the last time you bought a new pair of prescription eyeglasses? The nice ones are not cheap and I don’t want an ugly pair. I had some eyeglasses that I had gotten years ago and I thought I would just make do with those, but I was not the least bit excited by them.
Then the blog-iverse conspired and got me in touch with GlassesUsa.com. They offered me a free pair to review and I thought, “Why not? If they suck, I’ll just wear them at home.” They didn’t suck. As a matter of fact, I liked them so much I went back to the website as an actual consumer to buy glasses with my own hard-earned money and I liked the second pair even better than the first pair.
If you happen to be one of the 60% of adults that wears glasses, I thought I’d let you know that you can save 10% on your next order at GlassesUsa.com by using the code: Mommy10. They are also having a summer sale where you can take $25 off any order of glasses with Transitions lenses with the code: Trans25.

Great info!!! I despise wearing glasses, but after lasik surgery messed my eyes up, I have no choice now. SO expensive. I feel like I get robbed every time my px gets updated, (though I must admit, I like to play around with different styles)!

Thanks for the tip! I’m one of those who has worn glasses/contacts since I was five, so I’ve invested a lot of dinero over the years in being able to see.

I’ve gone through many glasses during my years. I only tried contacts for a few years. My eyes are too flat so putting them in was a big pain. Taking 15 minutes at times just doesn’t work in the morning. So I have a question – my latest pair have some amazing hinges than bend in all directions. This is very important when your granddaughter body slams your face in a surprise attack. So do they have kid proof/wrestler proof hinges?
unknownmami says
I’ve never had glasses with hinges that bend in all directions. I think I’ve seen them before.
lisleman says
I’m sure you have had the experience of a little one grabbing for you glasses. The flexible hinge prevents the hinge area from breaking. Of course they do cost more.
unknownmami says
I just wear a helmet whenever I play with my kids. Safety first.
lisleman says
you are full of funny surprises – I thought you would say a bag!
Classic NYer says
Wait, do the glasses go over the bag or under it? You must show us a picture, Mami!
unknownmami says
Glasses go over the bag, not under. What’s the point of getting cute glasses if they are going to be covered by a bag?
unknownmami says
I don’t wear a bag around the house, silly. My family knows what I look like.

Yes, the universe and stars aligned. I was just shopping for glasses for my daughter, who can’t wear contacts either, and the Betsy Johnson and RayBan’s she wanted were $$$. Mil gracias, UM.
xochica says
The universe did align, I was also hunting for glasses for my daughter. The Betsy Johnson’s and Rayban’s too many $$$. Mil gracias UM.

So tell me how you are seeing? Do you see better with the glasses? For me, I am getting used to the progressive lenses and was able to ride my bike without any dizziness. And I see the computer screen better. Good going, Mami, to get in touch with the eyeglass folks and try out a pair for them.
unknownmami says
Wearing glasses full-time for me took some adjustment because of my peripheral vision. I would have trouble going down stairs, but now I’m totally used to them and it’s fine.

Glasses are expensive which is probably why I just keep the same old frames year in and year out. I’ll check these people out.
