I Comment Therefore I Am

Welcome to another edition of I Comment Therefore I Am, where I put together a post with comments I’ve left on other blogs.

At Free2bMommy I always know that the author will not be shy about expressing her opinions and that’s what I like about her. She recently “weighed” in on her reactions to someone else’s opinion about seeing overweight people make out on TV. Visit her post for details. Here’s my take …

I want to see all types of people represented in the media. I’m sick of only certain types making it on there or if someone is fat they don’t get a love life they just get to be the funny side-kick. Also when am I going to get a show with a fat chick who is married to a skinny hot guy because I get to see the reverse all the time.

I read a post called Elections, immigrants, and stupid people. The author talked about how all of in  the U.S. are immigrants or decedents of immigrants unless we are Native Americans. Being raised in California as the daughter of Mexican parents, I do not consider myself a decedent of immigrants and here’s my reasoning…

My ancestors were born here because parts of California [along with many other parts of what is now the U.S.A] used to belong to Mexico. I like to say that they did not cross the border, the border crossed them.

That’s it for this edition of I Comment Therefore I Am.

Do you give good comment? Wanna play along? Go forth, spread the comment love, and turn it into a post (I keep a draft post open while I read blogs throughout the week). Recycle, reuse, and reduce my friends; it’s the wave of the future.

Oh and feel free to comment on my comments otherwise how will I know that you exist.

If you play along please link back and/or post the button below. Spread the love, spread the love! You can grab the button code from my sidebar.

Have you traced your ancestors back to the time Spain ruled the area? The borders moving around is interesting. We would be better off if we embraced diversity more.

I would love to trace my ancestors at some point. I’d like to see if any of the family myths are actually true. I think we must be very mixed because our skin colors and eye colors run the color spectrum.

Yes, Spain and Mexico are different. lisleman is just referring to the time in history when Spain colonized Mexico and claimed many of the territories.

How about the tired crabby sleep deprived mom who has a doting husband who lives to give foot massages? Hmmm, I think his character needs to be fleshed out more – he also loves hanging out with his kids and taking them on adventures, is a fix-it/handyman type guy, plays sports and ummm did I mention the foot rubs? 😉

Interesting viewpoint about the border and your ancestors. If people were living in part of Mexico that was taken over by America, that would make the people living there Mexican, or American, or is that why there is the term Mexican-American came from? Whatever it is, in my opinion it is the borders within our minds and hearts that separate people.

Good comments! My grandparents came from Spain and Switzerland. Knowing our family, they were probably all illegals. I am hoping to be deported back to Europe.

YES YES YES! I have a Chicana friend (she self-identifies herself thus) whose whole family hailed from San Antonio for centuries. It’s awesome talking American history with her.

The border crossed them – LOL That’s great!
I’d have to agree with the idea of all types being represented. It is quite possible that almost 2/3 of the United States is medically considered obese. That’s a lot of fat people kissing and I’m one of them. On TV, on the street and in our homes, people of all sizes are kissing, hugging and showing affections in view of the public. It’s really unfortunate that such an article was written, but then again, it’s certainly gotten a lot of people talking!
