LeapsterGS Explorer Review & #Giveaway

You don’t have to look around our home very long or very hard to figure out that we are big fans of LeapFrog products.

What’s there not to love? They are fun, educational, and quickly embraced by my children. In the end it doesn’t matter how edu-taining I think a toy is, my kids have to like it and use it or it’s just a lump of plastic taking up space and making clutter in our home.

LeapsterGS-ExplorerRecently we were offered the opportunity to review the new LeapsterGS Explorer and I jumped at the chance. I wanted to look at and use the LeapsterGS before Put Pie (my eldest), but that didn’t happen. As I was putting her sister to sleep she seized the opportunity and with her father’s help had the device out of the box and in her hot little hands.

So do we like it? Oh YEAH!!! Here’s the breakdown:

The device is built well and the perfect for little hands. It has a stylus that is attached securely and stores away conveniently. It seems to be able to withstand some drops and bumps, which are bound to happen. My youngest daughter “plays” with it too, but at a year and a half she is mostly just dropping it and poking at it with the stylus and the device seems no worse for wear.

Great features on the device:

  • Built in camera, video recorder, and microphone.
  • It can be preset with up to 3 kids’ information and also has a guest option.
  • Adjusts to individual child’s skills. Progress is remembered to keep the interaction challenging.
  • Apps, ebooks, and game cartridges are available for purchase to expand your content library.
  • You can upload apps and TAG books you’ve already purchased to the LeapsterGS

Areas that could be improved upon:

  • Battery life. It would be great if it came with a rechargeable battery pack. A rechargeable battery back is available for purchase, but I’d love it if it was just standard.
  • The apps and game cartridges are a bit pricey in my opinion. I would love to see some less expensive options being offered.

I would recommend (and have) this device to friends and family. It is a great educational and entertainment tool that can grow with your child(ren) for a few years.

    I would give it to my grandson Carter!  They moved back home with me last fall, and Carter and I spend alot of time playing!  We would have so much fun with it!

    I would win this for my Stepmother. She owns her own Bankruptcy law firm and anything that can help disarm the children that many of her clients bring would be helpful…once I’m done with it, of course.

    I would give this to my daughter. 🙂 I know she would love this! We had gotten her I believe it was Fisherprice XL or something like that and she loved it for the one whole day it worked. Now it just freezes and can’t be used at all. Leapster makes nice products thats for sure! 🙂
