Sleep, glorious sleep! I need some, I want some, I crave some! I’m a tired Mami. No seriously, I am crying as I write this (yup, tears running down my face crying, not metaphorical, not even exaggerating) because I am so tired it hurts and it’s only 11 am. How am I going to get through the rest of the day? Café con leche is great, but it’s not meant to replace sleep.
I don’t sleep enough because my kids don’t sleep enough. I have found that when it comes to sleep and children, the more they sleep, the more they sleep and the less they sleep, the less they sleep. Rested children are a delight and so much easier to put to sleep than overtired children. Rested mamis are also far more delightful than overtired mamis.
Right now, I feel like throwing my arms up in the air and declaring defeat. But I know that what I really need to do is refocus on our bedtime routine. Recently, I started incorporating a glass of milk into our bedtime ritual. I’ve always heard that there is a positive correlation between milk and sleep. I do notice that once I get them to go to sleep, if they’ve had milk, they tend to stay asleep longer.
Reading to my kids when it’s time to go to bed has always been on the agenda. It is crucial to read to children for many reasons. They not only learn and develop a love for reading, but it helps strengthen the bond between parent and child. My buddy El Maestro del Vaso Medio Lleno hooked me up with a printed copy of the children’s book, “Las Olas de La Luna” and a link to otros cuentos where you can download free copies of bilingual books. There are 7 titles total. Here are a few of examples of the adorable covers…
I love that the books are bilingual because I can read them to my girls in Spanish and my husband who doesn’t speak Spanish can read them in English. The books are great to read to your kids before bed, to put them in the right mindset, and are the perfect companion to their pre-bedtime glass of milk.
El Maestro del Vaso Medio LLeno is offering a positively wonderful sleep-encouraging prize pack to one lucky reader.
