Check out my elementary school graduate! I am so proud of this kid. She is smart, creative, hard-working and mine. She once said to me, “I know why you love me so much; it’s because you see yourself in me.” When she said that to me I sort of cringed because it sounded wrong like I love her because of myself and not because of who she is independently of me, so I answered, “No, I love you because of you.”
As uncomfortable as what she said made me feel, it stuck with me. I slept on it, then I woke up the next morning ready to accept that she was right. I do love her SO much because I see myself in her. It’s because she is my daughter and I see parts of myself in her and I have compassion for her and I want to give her all the love and support I craved as a child. It’s the same but different with my other daughter because with my other daughter I see different parts of myself in her and I see a lot of my mother in her as well.
I love my children so much because they are an extension of me. They just are and they will always be.
This coming week my eldest is graduating from elementary school and I am so proud of her. She’s a good student and a good person. She’s so good, you guys, and she’s mine. I’m so freakin’ lucky.
