What is up with my husband? I swear he is going out of his way to make me fall in love with him all over again. Yesterday, I wrote about one of the reasons why he is perfect for me, it involved him deciding that trying to join the Masons was not for him. Well, today he sent me a copy of the thank you email he sent and I am so darned proud of him I asked for permission to print it.
Thank you so much for inviting me to the lodge. I had a nice time and everyone was kind and friendly. After my visit I gave the idea of joing some thought and decided it was not for me. The issue I have is that it is a fraternity. I knew this going in but didn’t realize the cost of this practice until I left. I just can’t be part of any organization that excludes anyone based on sex, race, sexual orientation, etc.
The Masons helped my family by fixing my brothers legs at Shriner’s Hospital and I will never forget that. The Masons do great work and I hope they can continue to do great work for another 400 years. And, maybe, just maybe, one day they will consider the openheartedness, courage, and brilliance a woman can contribute.
Sincereley,
Unknown Papi
I love him. Seriously, reading the last line of his email makes me cry. I married the man who wrote, “And, maybe, just maybe, one day they will consider the openheartedness, courage, and brilliance a woman can contribute.” Sigh…my husband the feminist.

just wondering – did you see this
Blogger is currently unavailable
I’m guessing it would still affect you since you use the platform – right? Did you post before it went down?

That is a great well written message. I would interested in their response.

Nope, I’m on WordPress.

You must be feeling good about switching off Blogger now. It is still down (read only) if you didn’t notice. The worst thing is they took it back in time so my last post is gone.
So far the Blogger outage has not affected the DISQUS system so I’m glad I switched to that. Maybe I should start sharing Friday Fragments over here.

He’s amazing. He could have just said no thanks, but he went ahead an told them why and stood up for his beliefs.

That’s a nice letter. UP might also consider the Order of the Eastern Star (it’s a group that both men and women can join). Though I will say this, I don’t really have a problem with male/female exclusive groups. There are reasons to have single-sex organizations for brother or sisterhood (and to stave off the possibility of romantic issues that would cloud the purpose of the group).
I admire that your husband stands up for his beliefs. Too many of us don’t. 🙂
