Hola Chulas y Chulos, its time for your weekly dose of The Flying Chancla Report. So hold on to your pompis and vámonos!
- Guess who my chancla and I get to hang out with this weekend? My buddy Maura from the wonderful blog, The Other Side of the Tortilla. We are so excited to spend some in person time with this wonderful woman. My chancla and I talk to her regularly online, but we all know that nothing beats in person time with friends.

I voted this week and I took my eldest with me because I want voting to be a “natural” thing for her when the time comes. She likes the stickers. I’m not gonna lie, I like the stickers too.
When I was growing up I never got to see the immediate adults in my life vote. My immigrant mother was a resident alien and didn’t have the right to vote. When I voted for the first time I cried because it felt like such a BIG deal. Today, I took my eldest with me to vote so that when the time comes for her to vote it feels like the most natural thing in the world. #ivoted #ivotedtoday #vote #latinosvote A photo posted by Claudya Martinez (@unknownmami) on

- At some point don’t we all feel like we need a mommy? Well, one woman has found a way to turn this need of ours into a business. Her name is Nina Keneally and the tagline for her website Need a Mom is “When you need a mom…just not YOUR mom.” I kind of love the idea because you can get all the pampering, home cooking, folded laundry, nurturing and support without the nagging. Hee hee. It appears she’s only available in New York…wah…wah, but still what a fun idea.

The town of As Pontes in Galicia was promoting a culinary festival celebrating a leafy green veggie called grelo. They wanted to put the information about the festival up on their website in Spanish as well as Galician so they decided to use Google Translate to help them out. They ended up with something that read along the lines of: “The clitoris is one of the typical products of Galician cuisine. Since 1981 … the festival has made the clitoris one of the star products of its local gastronomy.” Bwahahaha. Oopsy, totally different kind of festival, que no? Google has since made some adjustments to that translation.
