Week 4 of My Shelter in Place Travels

Week 4 of shelter in place travels by Claudya

My family and I are going on week 4 of sheltering in place and I am beginning to lose all concept of time. I use humor as a coping mechanism, which is why when we were first asked to shelter in place by the mayor of San Francisco, I thought I would start what I call shelter in place travels to help pass the time and add a bit of funny to the situation.

Basically, I edit myself into pictures of different places in the world and share those virtual travels with you. The first two weeks I was on it! The third week, I found myself feeling less enthused. The fourth week, which is the week that I am sharing with you in this post, I couldn’t even accurately keep track of what day I was on much less stay on top of my shelter in place travels. Like for reals, I don’t even know what day we’re on anymore and all I really want to do is be able to go outside without worrying about catching and spreading coronavirus.

Anygüeys, for what it’s worth, here’s where I managed to virtually travel during our fourth week of sheltering in place.

On what may have been days 19 and 20, but probably weren’t because I lost count, I went to Bali.

Days 19 and 20 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me to the Gates of Heaven in Bali. I’ve always seen people take those pictures of themselves at the gates with their reflection in what appears to be a pool of water and thought it was so cool. Then I found out that there is no water there and that the “trick” of the eye is created by a photographer with a mirror held just so under the camera lens. Well, I recreated the concept, but my reflection went rogue on me. ⠀⠀ If you missed my "travel in place" visits to Cuba, Greece, China, Colombia, Antartica, Thailand, India, Japan, Mexico, Italy, England, France and Egypt, visit my profile to check 'em out. And stay tuned for my continuing imaginary travels while we all cope with this pandemic and shelter in place. ⠀ ⠀ Also, I'm taking requests. Where would you like to see me travel while I shelter in place? Let me know in the comments and I'll see if I can make it happen. #shelterinplacetravels

Then at some point after that, I went to Easter Island.

Days 21 and 22 of shelter in place in San Francisco: Today's imaginary travels take me to Easter Island, which is a territory of Chile. It’s famous for these moai megaliths that are often mistakenly referred to as Easter Island Heads. The thing is that the moais have bodies, it’s just that some of them – like the one I’m standing next to – have become buried up to their shoulders over the years. They were created circa 1400 – 1600 A.D. by the Rapa Nui people. The island was called Rapa Nui before it was renamed “Easter Island” by Dutch explorers that first encounter it on Easter in 1722. There are many theories about how the moai were transported to their current locations because they were carved elsewhere. One popular theory is that they were put there by extraterrestrials and not the Rapa Nui people at all. What do you think?
