ZeroWater Pitcher Review and #Giveaway

My drink of choice is water straight up! Stirred or shaken, doesn’t matter. What does matter is that it be as clean and free of contaminants as possible. Filtered San Francisco tap water is what my family and I consume. I committed to tap water because it’s better for the environment than buying bottled water. But is San Francisco tap or any other tap better for me and my family?

002

How do I know if the tap water I’m drinking is “clean” and safe for my family to drink even after it has been filtered?

At the ZeroWater site you can look up the TDS reading for your area by typing in your zip code. TDS stands for total dissolved solids. Here are some facts about TDS:

  • TDS can leave an undesirable taste in tap water.
  • TDS comes from both natural deposits and man-made sources.
  • The FDA requires Purified Bottled Water to achieve a TDS reading between 000-010

I’ve been using a conventional water filter (the kind you put in a pitcher) for years. I’ve had no way of knowing how much TDS is still in it after being filtered, but I figured it had to be better than what was coming straight out of the tap and truth be told it definitely tastes better than what comes out of the tap.

When I was given the chance to review a ZeroWater 10 cup pitcher I was excited because it comes with a built in TDS meter and I was looking forward to doing a little test.

ZeroWater-Reading

Pictured above are the TDS meter readings I got after testing out tap water, our conventional filtered water, and then our ZeroWater filtered water. Turns out that the water in my area is much better than in many, but can still contain dangerous impurities such as lead; our conventional filtered water was better, but not by much; and the ZeroWater treated water was the winner coming in at ZERO!

The meter fits conveniently into the lid of the pitcher so that it is handy for future use and when the meter reads 006, it’s time to replace the filter. My favorite part of the pitcher is that you have 2 different options for dispensing the water.

Zero-Water-Pitcher

You can pour from the top of the pitcher or if you want to keep on a counter or in the fridge you can pour from the handy dandy bottom spigot. I dig it!

There is nothing to beat pure water straight from the tap but only if it is safe to do so.  It varies a lot here in Italy!

That’s a nice looking water filter, Mami.  We have a filter built into our sink but for the life of me I can’t remember when the filter was changed last.  Yikes.  I better get on it.

253 is our reading.  It is not too bad, but lower would be better.

140 and 261 were the numbers that came up on the little map for the two nearest places to me.  But my own zip didn’t give any results.

We used to filter all our water but stopped for some reason.  When I first moved to ‘the city’ (I grew up in the boonies/way deep in the woods) I couldn’t stand the water up here.  I grew up on well water.  Best tasting water ever.

I was researching water filters a couple of weeks ago. Our water here tastes GROSS so I am almost afraid to know what’s in it.

This filter makes the water taste great. I’m going to retire my previous filter.

I’ve had both Britta and PUR and I liked them both, but I’m liking this one even more. Good luck.
