Fragmented Fridays

Yesterday, I was having the best day in the world. Really, I felt blessed left and right. All kinds of fantastic, amazing things were happening and coming my way. Things I can’t tell you about yet, but I will soon. And then…(cue the sinister music)…

The INTERNET broke!

It just stopped working! Why!?! Why me?!! I have so much to do and so little time to do it in. The kids were napping and I was ready to get my internet on, but it just wouldn’t work. I walked to the phone to call the internet doctor and my landline wasn’t working either. What the?! Fortunately, I have a cellphone and was able to report the problem that way. I spent about an hour repeating the same information “for security reasons” to different people and finally one of them said they would send an internet and phone doctor the next day.

The next day! It all felt so 80’s and dark ages.

I’m happy to report the internet is back and really I was fine without it for almost 24 hours. I wasn’t happy about it, but I was fine. I read a magazine and went to bed early.

The point of telling you this story, is that even though everything was going my way yesterday I was ready to get upset and focus on the one little thing that went wrong. How ridiculous is that?

So here are some of the wonderful things that happened yesterday

  • I won a giveaway at Nibbles and Feasts.
  • FedEx delivered a giveaway that I won from Flanboyant Eats awhile back.
  • I was super excited all day about a recurring writing gig that I booked earlier in the week. Can’t wait to tell you about it!
  • Another awesome blog-related work opportunity presented itself.
  • The mailman delivered a padded envelope that only had my first name and address, no return address, no way of identifying who sent it other than an S.F. zip code, which contained 2 American Express gift cards. Seriously, I have no idea who sent this or why, but I am beyond grateful and so touched.

You may or may not have been aware that my family and I have been going through some difficult times financially. Yesterday reminded me that this will not always be the case, that good things are headed our way, and that I should quit getting upset about little glitches like the internet not working. It also helped me remember that I am RICH even when I don’t have money.

I hope you had a fantastic day yesterday or are having one today, but if not please remember that your day WILL come!

And now your Friday Fortune Cookie (don’t forget to add “in bed” at the end, if you are so inclined):

P.S. I’m having some fun giveaways. If you know a child that would enjoy a Llama Llama Home with Mama book, click HERE and in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month I’m giving away some cool gear HERE.

I lost the internet and phone line for about 3 days and I was climbing the walls. It then struck me that I was addicted to it, and that this was a wake up call that I needed to get my priorities right. That thought lasted about a day. 😀

I’m happy things are looking up for you and your family. I think your decision to stay with your children is a hard one (financially) but it’s wonderful that you are starting to get writing gigs, you are talented and deserve them.

It’s so easy to get tunnel vision when the internet is out.  That’s when I remember to reply to an email a week old, or when I really wanted to watch that viral video!  So glad it was only a day.   You are blessed and lucky, too I see!

How sweet! I can imagine the being cut off from the Internet though. I’ve found a way to deal with that. 😀 I consciously shut down the computer every once in a while these days and the relief is something else. I had a lovely day yesterday, too, UM.

(But thank God for cellphones, eh?)

You are a survivor….I’d die without the internet!! I would not afraid to admit it either!
I’m happy the good things come your way. You are a wonderful person and deserve wonderful things to happen.
    Have a great weekend!

The internet has gotten so intertwined in our lives.  Just the bill paying along would be a problem.  It has dropped for me for hours at a time but typically not more than 5 hours or so.  Great that you handled it well – the positive attitude can make a difference.

Laughing at “It felt so 80’s and dark ages” – LOL!!
We are all so used to technology now that we do not know how to live without it.
My phone died this morning and I plugged it in to recharge it but then had to go run a few errands – WITHOUT MY PHONE – I felt so naked!  Or maybe 80’s in the dark ages – ha ha!!

Don’t get me wrong I LOVED the 80’s, but I don’t want to go back to Walkmans and mall bangs.

This hits home for me and I bet with all the people who read your blog. We got ourselves in a hissy fit over the first thing that doesn’t go the way we want, and forget all the great things going on that overshadow the pissy things. Nice reminder.

It doesn’t surprise me at all that such a wonderful thing would happen to you (the surprise gift). Happy for you on all other accounts, too. May many more great things happen to you this week! 🙂

I get so angry when the internet goes out yet the quiet time is so nice. I shouldn’t be on here like I am anyway. But it’s like when your car is here everyday but if someone uses it you can think of a million place you want to go but can’t!!! Sounds like your day continues to be awesome with the internet!
