OMAIGA you guys, on September 12 it was announced that Melissa Villaseñor is one of three new “Saturday Night Live” cast members and everyone (OK, maybe not everyone, but pretty much every Latino who has ever watched SNL) is like “FINALLY a Latina on SNL!!!” Technically she’s the second Latina cast member because Noel Wells from the 2013-2014 season is a quarter Latina, but I digress.
Villaseñor’s list of credits includes being a finalist on season six of “America’s Got Talent” as well as lending her talents to Más Mejor, a digital platform dedicated to creating and distributing Latino developed comedy. Incidentally, Más Mejor is part of Broadway Video, an entertainment company founded by Lorne Michaels who happens to be the creator of “Saturday Night Live.”
I personally wasn’t familiar with Villaseñor’s work, but after deep-diving into her Instagram account I now count myself as a fan. The woman is funny AF and does great impressions and not just of JLo, but her JLo is SPOT ON.
