Holy caca, gente! Normally I start The Flying Chancla Report with “hola Chulas y Chulos,” but this week I have got to start with “holy caca” because this week has been a caca storm. Mierda has really hit the fan. The elections have shown us just how divided we are as a country and I don’t know how we’re going to come together, but we must.
Reports that “self-identified Trump supporters are harassing minorities, and calling for more organized white supremacy” keep coming in and this kind of hate is unacceptable. Although, the country may not agree on who should have won the election, I think every decent human being can agree that no one should be made to feel afraid because they are seen as the other or less than.
Here’s the good thing, we don’t have to wait for someone else to take action against hate, we can do this individually and yet together in the grander scheme. How? Well, following the example of the United Kingdom after Brexit sparked an uptick in hate crimes, Americans have started wearing safety pins to show solidarity and support for anyone in a marginalized group that is not feeling safe.
The safety pin is meant to symbolize that you are an ally and that someone who is feeling threatened is safe with you. That you will look out for them, defend and call for help if they need it. I’m in and so are many others.
Check out these messages from just a few of the people who are a part of the safety pin army and join us, if you haven’t already.

Let’s be the change!

I am in! You are safe with me. I still believe that people are truly good at heart. Misguided and angry, at times, but I still believe un the essential good of humanity. I will wear a safety pin proudly. (as soon as I find one – LOL!)
