12 Days Chicano Style

On the first day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
a perico in an aguacate tree. (parrot in an avocado tree)

On the second day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
dos saladitos
, (two salted plums)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
three pairs of chanclas, (flip flops/ slippers)
dos saladitos,
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me,
four jalapeños,
three pairs of chanclas,
dos saladitos,
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
five nalgadas (I was bad), (butt spankings)
four jalapeños,
three pairs of chanclas,
dos saladitos,
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
six kinds of chile,
(continue 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
seven Tias chismiando, (Aunts gossiping)
(continue 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
ocho tostadas,
(continue 7 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the 9th day of Christmas
my Nana gave to me
nine Padre Nuestros, (Our Fathers)
(continue 8 7 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my Nana gave to me
ten chiles rellenos,
(continue 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas
my Nana gave to me
eleven full piñatas,
(continue 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas
my Nana gave to me
doce pork tamales
(continue 11 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2)
and a perico in an aguacate tree.

    Awesome! I love having a different version – and I could actually recognize a few of these thank to Little Miss’s Spanish homework I’ve been doing with her (heaven help me). I may have to sing this to her – or have my husband do it since he actually speaks Spanish as opposed to my mangling of words and pronunciations!
