Taking Care of My Beautiful Brown Eyes #TransitionsLens

Transitions Product QualifierThere are many aspects of my health that I take for granted, but my eye sight and overall eye health are not amongst them. I get eye exams at least once a year, but usually more than that because I don’t have a choice.

In 2010, I developed corneal ulcers from contact overuse. The ulcers left some scarring, which makes wearing contacts not a viable everyday option. Truth be told, I’m not really willing to wear contacts unless there is a very compelling reason.

I also have iritis in my left eye. Iritis, a painful inflammation of the iris,  is an autoimmune issue and is not related to the ulcers. My iritis is chronic, which means I have to use medicated eye drops and be under the care of a specialist who checks my eye pressure on a regular basis.

So you see, I can’t really afford to take the health of my beautiful brown eyes for granted. Even if I tried to the pain would get so bad that I would not be able to ignore it. All these issues with my eyes have led to me becoming a full-time wearer of glasses.

I hate to sound shallow, but I was unbelievably bummed when I found out I had to wear glasses all the time. I like glasses, but I love sunglasses. I have so many wonderful sunglasses that I can no longer wear because they don’t have a prescription and I can’t see a thing with them on.

The thing about the medication I use for my iritis is that it makes my left eye sensitive to light. Sunglasses really help with sensitivity to light and they can also protect your eyes from the sun, so when I was offered the chance to try a pair of glasses with Transitions® Lenses I jumped at the chance.

I was set up with an appointment at For Your Eyes Only in San Francisco’s Castro District.

The-Castro-SF

The eye exam itself went smoothly. No wait and more importantly no surprises, which in the case of my eyes is a good thing.

The most daunting part of my visit was choosing a pair of frames, but once I narrowed it down to my price range, can you believe that the first pair of frames I tried on were the ones I picked?

Selection-of-frames
Still I managed to drive my husband crazy by trying on every pair I could.

I was told my glasses would be ready in 7-10 days, but they were ready in 3. Once I got the frames with my prescription, the glasses needed to be adjusted. If you wear glasses, make sure you get them adjusted, it makes all the difference in the world not to have to push them up all day long.

All that was left to do was put them on and try out the new Transitions® Lenses in different conditions. Here they are indoors…

And here they outdoors…

I had no idea they would get so dark, but I love that they do. Truthfully, I never even noticed them changing. The change is gradual and didn’t make me feel like things went dark, I just didn’t have to squint.

I’ve had my new Transitions® Lens glasses for a few weeks now and I’m loving having sunglasses that I can see with again. They reduce glare and they protect the health of my eyes by blocking 100 percent of harmful UVA and UVB rays.

Oh and I got them just in time for summer!

This is part of a sponsored campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Transitions Optical. I was provided with a complimentary eye exam and pair of eyeglasses to test for the purpose of this campaign. However, all opinions expressed are my own.

I love the “outdoors” look! I yearn to wear sunglasses and like you, can’t wear them without a prescription. It is so very warm here right now, I often think I’ll faint in the sun when I go out on my scooter. Yep, i wear a full-head helmet…but I wish I had sexy dark glasses like those. I haven’t been able to get photochromatic that becomes completely clear indoors. It always ends up tinted slightly. 🙁 I’ve got severe astigmatism and short sight. Anyway, my right eye is half blind 😀

Glad you got yours! And you look terrific!

How cool! I didn’t think Transition lenses actually got that dark. I may have to think about them.
And I remember you were bummed but I am so glad that you got such cool glasses to support those beautiful brown eyes!

I have to wear glasses all the time and have transition lenses, too.  They are great, but they don’t work as well in the car.

I was told they wouldn’t work in the car because the windshield has UV protection so the glasses won’t get dark.

oh the solution to that is to just stick you head out the window while you drive.  Hey no problem you can thank me later.

Better be safe than vain and glasses can be so attractive as they obviously are on you. 🙂

I alternate between contacts and glasses.  And I’m like you – I love my big fabulous sunglasses.  But if contants were no longer an option, they’d all be useless too.  So happy that you found a happy medium and that the price was right 😀

I have used Transition glasses since the early 1980’s.  I did a lot of driving and being with the children and found 2 pair glasses extremely inconvenient.  I love mine

    They are wonderful glasses girl!
I have two pair, one ‘normal’ for reading/watching TV etc and a prescription pair of sunglasses for outside.  I tried transition lenses years ago and could not adjust to them.
The hardest part is always picking the frames!

Looking good, Mami!  When I was younger and needed glasses, I wanted transition lenses, but my grandmother couldn’t afford them.  I don’t remember transition glasses looking so nice.

It’s long past time for me to pick out transition lenses. Recently I had to return to wearing glasses as my RK surgery is no longer holding back my myopia. I live in a sun-kissed land where cataracts are not rare.

Lovely! I’ve always been curious about these glasses. I need to get a pair of sunglasses and I’ve found myself wearing more and more reading glasses – computer is messing up my eyes. This sound like an interesting option 🙂 Awesome.

Cute! And ouch. So sorry about the eye trouble…When I wore glasses as a kid in Miami it was murder to be out in the bright light with glasses, so I feel you!

Glad you’re enjoying your new transitions. I need to look into those for my little girl.

I’ve been wearing glasses since I was in 2nd grade but now I wear contacts.  I think my contact days be over soon so these sorts of glasses are in my future. Like you, I love sunglasses and living in Florida means you must have several cute pairs handy.
I’ll have to check these out.  Thanks for sharing!

I’ve been a little bit skeptical of Transitions because the “transition” can take a while. You know the people you see in the grocery store who are in that “shady” in between stage? Wonderful, authentic review and thanks for all the 411 on eye health. You are right. We take it for granted.
