The Flying Chancla Report

The Flying Chancla Report

Hola Chulas y Chulos! How are my favorite hijos de la chanclada doing? Aquí, me and my chancla are más o menos if you know what I mean. Anyway, here’s some stuff my chancla found for you this week.

  • So the clever folks at BuzzFeed put out a video of Mexican people trying on “Mexican” costumes and you know my chancla and I had to watch because OF COURSE WE DID. I have to say that I’m not all up in arms about these costumes because I’m way too tired to be upset by every dumb costume that crosses my path. I mean—yes, the one where the “Mexican” is riding a donkey while wearing a sombrero, fake bigote and a poncho is a little bit of overkill with the stereotypes, but seeing an actual Mexican in it made it more laughable than anything else. Oh, and the taco costume? Ain’t nothin’ wrong with a taco as far as I’m concerned even if it is an Americanized processed hard-shell version. Don’t be actin’ like your drunk self doesn’t crave just that kind of taco sometimes. Shoot, I don’t even have to be drunk to crave bad “Mexican” food SOMETIMES (stress on the sometimes because of course I love me the good stuff mo’ betta).

  • Did you know I grew up in LA? Yup, totally did and so did my chancla. Did you know that even though I grew up in LA I love NY? Yup, I totally do, but my chancla not so much because you really need better footwear than chanclas in NY. Anyway, it is rather interesting to me that both cities have these strong stereotypes that are associated with them. I mean can you remember when the first time you heard that people from NY are “rude” was? I personally don’t think they are rude, I just think they tend to get to the point faster and that means doing away with some niceties. Or what about the first time that you heard that people from LA are vain and big into shopping and plastic surgery (all true—I’M KIDDING!)? Well, this “Jimmy Kimmel Live video” of LA vs NY-Kids Edition is so funny because OMG, they are kids and WHERE do they get this stuff? So freakin’ funny.

  • Hey, you know how Jessica Alba is really pretty? Turns out the pretty manzana does not fall far from the pretty tree. Alba posted this sweet pic of her and her mom on Instagram and it seems to me that pretty runs in the family, qué no?

  • PAÑUELO ALERT: Jackie Cruz or “Flaca” as you may know her from “Orange is the New Black” did a cover and music video of Selena Quintanilla’s “Como La Flor” and let’s just say it will give you all the feels and maybe make you a little mocosa from crying on the inside.

That’s it for this week’s The Flying Chancla Report. I love you mucho and remember, spread love, not chanclazos!

Who’s the dumbest person in L.A.? Kim Kardashian….that last kid killed me! I love your Chancla reports. I always enjoy reading them. Very entertaining and humorous. However, I don’t think I will agree with you on the Jackie Cruz version of Como La Flor. I didn’t really dig it! Then again when it comes to Selena covers and such -only few people can really make me go WOW! I’ll even tell you a secret- for the longest time I really hated that they picked JLo to interpret Selena in the movie….lol I’m just super picky with Selena! #sorrynotsorry

I think I have a soft spot for Jackie Cruz which makes me biased. I have to say I’m on the same page as you when it comes to JLo as Selena in the movie.
